Davante Adams gets to move back to the West Coast as he joins the Los Angeles Rams on a two-year, $46 million deal. This new contract puts Davante Adams back into the NFC after spending the last 4 years in the AFC where there’s been greater competition. Will being back in the NFC be a success for Adams? Can the Jets succeed without Adams? We’ll be looking at players who benefit from Adams signing with the Rams and players whose fantasy value took a hit.
Winners of the Davante Adams Signing
Matthew Stafford: QB, Los Angeles Rams
After first exploring potential trades for Matthew Stafford, the Rams opted to keep Stafford in town by restructuring his contract. This was a mutually beneficial move, and now Stafford benefits even more with the addition of Davante Adams. If Stafford were to go to another team like the New York Giants, where he could’ve potentially landed, his situation would have been much worse off. Stafford now has 2 proven Pro-Bowl wide receivers to throw to, even with the inevitable departure of Cooper Kupp. With a healthy Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, Stafford could throw his first season with over 4,000 yards since 2021. This is the same year Stafford won the Super Bowl for the Rams.
Davante Adams: WR, Los Angeles Rams
Arguably the biggest winner of this move is Davante Adams himself. After playing 4 years in the AFC with each season being on a team that failed to make the playoffs, Adams now joins the winners of the NFC West in 2024. The Rams are the favorites to win the division again in 2025. With Davante Adams signing with the team, he helps put them one step closer to doing so.
Adams is a consistent 1,000-yard-per-season receiver as he’s managed to reach that feat in 6 of the last 7 seasons. Adams should be able to make it a 6th straight season with over 1,000 yards with Matthew Stafford in 2025. In redraft modes, Adams is still a top 20 receiver and someone we have no hesitation in drafting. In Dynasty, this move increased his stock as well. We’re content with holding him on our roster if we have a chance to compete for a title.
Garrett Wilson: WR, New York Jets
A big winner who is not a member of the Los Angeles Rams is wide receiver Garrett Wilson of the New York Jets. Once Adams came to town, it was apparent that Aaron Rodgers favored his former teammate rather than the budding star in Wilson. Wilson still managed to put up a career high in receiving yards and touchdowns with 1,104 & 7, respectively, in 2024. With Adams out of the picture and being back to the #1 guy in New York, Wilson should see more targets and potentially grow upon these numbers as long as they bring in a semi-competent quarterback into town.
Losers of the Davante Adams Signing
Cooper Kupp: WR, Los Angeles Rams
This is the nail in the coffin for a potential return to Los Angeles for Cooper Kupp as the Rams now have found Kupp’s replacement. If Kupp doesn’t get released, it’s likely he’s traded as he’s already said goodbye to the Rams community. After his historic 2021 campaign putting up 145 receptions, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns, Kupp’s declined for 3 straight years. This past season, Kupp finished as fantasy WR36. We expect him to drop further and finish somewhere in the WR50 to WR60 range. This is contingent on where he lands this offseason.
DeMarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell, & Tyler Johnson: WRs, Los Angeles Rams
With hopes of becoming the WR2 on the Los Angeles Rams, DeMarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell, & Tyler Johnson now need to go back to the drawing board where they have to compete for the WR3 job again. Being on a team with Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, it was already difficult enough for the receivers to get targets.
With Adams essentially replacing Kupp, it’s going to be more difficult to do so. Tutu Atwell led the 3 in receiving yards with 562 in 2024. DeMarcus Robinson finished with 7 touchdowns and was the best fantasy option of the group. All 3 now have to step up their game and work harder to earn targets in this loaded offense. If any of the 3 can do so, we expect Robinson to accomplish this. He’s worth rostering in deeper dynasty formats, but we’d need to bank on Puka or Adams missing time before we’d consider starting him or the other two.
