We are almost there. The NFL draft is right around the corner which means your dynasty drafts are going to be starting before you know it. Finding value before your draft via trade or free agency is one of the keys to winning your league. Monthly Dynasty Deep Stashes is here to help you do just that. Each month we highlight four players you should be buying now and see an increase in value over the next few months and maybe longer. Let’s take a look at March’s Dynasty Deep Stashes.
Isaac Guerendo: Running back- San Francisco 49ers
Remember last year when Christian McCaffrey went down with an injury? Remember when Jordan Mason was the steal of the century off waiver wires because no one had him? Well, don’t be caught this year. Isaac Guerendo needs to be on your dynasty roster now. Jordan Mason is gone. The 49ers did not bring anyone in during free agency. The depth chart right now reads McCaffery, Guerendo, Israel Abinikanda, and Patrick Taylor. The door is wide open for Guerendo not only to be a solid change of pace back but also to see significant opportunities if CMC were to miss time.
In the limited time we saw Guerendo in 2024, he played well. He had four touchdowns on only 84 carries. He averaged five yards per carry. McCaffery is reported to be ready for training camp but dealt with Achilles tendonitis and then a knee injury last season. Despite only being 28 years old, McCaffery has played only two full seasons out of the last 5. The likelihood of his missing time is high. Guerendo is the perfect complement for McCaffery. He has good speed. He ran a 4.33 40-yard dash last year at the NFL Combine. Guerendo is the biggest back on the team, aside from fullback Kyle Juszczyk. While Guerendo doesn’t have the pass-catching skills that McCaffery has he has the running skills.
On a team that is overhauling its wide receiver group, you want a part of the running game this year. Let’s also not forget that McCaffery has a massive dead cap hit this year, but next year gets on the right side of the book for the 49ers to cut him. In Dynasty, having a starting running back is currency that you can’t get elsewhere. Currently on our Trade Calculator, Guerendo can be picked up for roughly an early 3rd-round pick. You won’t be able to draft a starting running back at that point in your rookie draft.
Kendre Miller: Running Back- New Orleans Saints
Just like Guerendo, we are looking at a running back who has underperformed so far but is in line to possibly be the starter, sooner rather than later. That’s what Kendre Miller is. The New Orleans Saints are in cap space hell. The only player they can move to save money is veteran Alvin Kamara. I doubt that happens, but the Saints need to do something in the next 18 months.
What can get them out of cap space hell is having starters on rookie contracts. The Saints have done well drafting wide receivers. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed look like a perfect duo. Kendre Miller should be the next piece for the offense. While Miller has played sparingly, part of that seemed to be because former head coach Dennis Allen seemed to have a personal vendetta against him. Miller has dealt with injuries, but never seemed to connect with the head coach, despite drafting Miller. I don’t think Miller is completely blameless. There were reports that he didn’t show a ton of effort in practice and training camp. Hopefully, a new coaching staff has worked with him on that and sees the potential for Miller.
Miller was a solid player in college at TCU, but came on in his final season. After only playing 10 games in 2021 and scoring 7 touchdowns on 83 carries. He burst onto the scene in 2022 with 224 carries in 14 games for 17 touchdowns. Miller is an average-sized back at 6’0” and 220 lbs. He can be a between-the-tackle runner with that size. He also has some speed to get on the outside. While he didn’t run at the Combine or Pro Day, he was recorded at a 4.58 during his college tenure. He certainly won’t blow past you like Kamara can, but he’s fast enough with his size to break tackles and burst through holes.
The Saints want to move out of the basement of the NFC South and the cap space list; they need to invest in Miller and see what he is. If he can be a starter, then they can address other areas next year. If he can’t, they know and can move on. Currently, you can acquire Miller for a late 3rd-round pick. That’s a great price for someone who can be a starter next year if not sooner. Let’s not pretend that Alvin Kamara is the model of health. Go get Kendre Miller now and stash him on your dynasty bench.
Mac Jones: Quarterback- San Francisco 49ers
Mac Jones on the 49ers is not as exciting as it would have been if they had drafted him back in 2021 instead of Trey Lance. We talked about Lance last month. Mac Jones now has a chance to work with Kyle Shanahan and turn his career around. It’s the perfect system for a quarterback to shine. Jimmy Garoppolo excelled in this system. Brock Purdy has been a solid starter, and now Mac Jones gets to learn. While Brock Purdy is currently the starter, his contract negotiation situation needs to be monitored.
There is a chance that Shanahan has talked to upper management that Mac Jones is equally as talented and would command less in a long-term contract. Jones was a big winner in free agency, signing with the 49ers. He should continue to develop as a pro. He has shown flashes. Last year, with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he got a chance to show off his skills. He was solid as a starter in his rookie season with New England. Mac Jones has only started 48 games, and 17 of them are multi-passing touchdown games. In his career he has 54 touchdowns and only 44 interceptions.
Mac Jones needs to make some steady improvements, but he is in a system that allows him to do that. A great coaching staff that will work with him. When Mac Jones does get to start, he has a solid wide receiver group and a future Hall of Famer tight end and running back. Its one of the best dynasty deep stashes you can make right now. A quarterback is always a great asset to hold, even more so in super-flex leagues. Currently, Mac Jones’s trade value is worth close to a 5th round pick next year. He’s practically a throw-in in most trades. Go get him now and reap the benefit later.
Marvin Mims: Wide Receiver- Denver Broncos
If you know me and have seen me on a podcast, you probably know that I am not a fan of Marvin Mims. He was a boom or bust player in college at Oklahoma and continued that into the NFL. I was shocked to see him drafted in the 2nd round by the Denver Broncos. In his first year, Marvin Mims was only a special-teams player seeing only 33 targets the whole season. His sophomore season. It wasn’t much better with 52 targets.
So why should you stash Marvin Mims on your dynasty roster? There are a few reasons. First, we can’t ignore the last two games of the season. While I’m not one to quickly jump on a hot, trendy player, it was something to see Mims have back-to-back two-touchdown games. While they accounted for 18% of his total fantasy production, it’s a sign of what could be.
Even more promising is that the Broncos didn’t go out and bring in a wide receiver in free agency. There were plenty of solid options available, and they stayed put. With Bo Nix continuing to develop as a passer and Courtland Sutton holding down the other side of the field, Mims has room to produce. The biggest knock against it is the snap share. Mims failed to surpass 50% of the team’s snaps in 2024 and only twice surpassed it in 2023. He also only has one game with over 6 targets.
Mims may end up being a slot receiver with a very specific set of skills. He did run more routes from outside than the slot, but the wide roles seem to be Sutton and Troy Franklin‘s to lose in camp. Even with a boom/bust archetype, Mims is worth stashing right now. You can currently acquire him for a late 2nd or early 3rd. If the Broncos don’t draft someone, that price will go up, and even if they do, it won’t drop much further. If Mims has one or two big games, his value will spike, and you can convert him into a higher pick or more consistent player.
Roster Clogger
Greg Dortch: Wide Receiver- Arizona Cardinals
So many people still want Greg Dortch to be a thing. Let’s face it, it’s been four years now in Arizona, and it’s not a thing. You have to combine his three good seasons with the Cardinals to make a good season stat line. He has never seen more than 65 targets. Has never surpassed 500 receiving yards and his max was 3 touchdowns. You can chalk 2022 and 2023 to Kyler Murray missing time, but what is the excuse for 2024?
The Cardinals went out and drafted Marvin Harrison Jr. They traded for Zay Jones, who missed time. They still have Michael Wilson whom they drafted in the 3rd round in 2023. Dortch was an undrafted signee for the New York Jets and bounced around before landing with the Cardinals in 2021.
2024 Dortch averaged just under 3 targets a game. He ran 66% of his routes out of the slot, but that role has been dominated by tight end Trey McBride. Where does Dortch find his role in this offense? It’s not the field stretcher. That’s Harrison. It’s not as the big body red zone or possession guy. That’s Wilson. It’s not the middle safe throw. That’s McBride. I just don’t see a role for Dortch, who will be battling Zay Jones for snaps. In the last six games of the season, only once did Dortch out-snapped Jones. Dump him now. If you can find someone willing to give you a 4th-round pick, you take it.
