Fantasy Football Week 5 Boom and Bust Players

Image

Welcome to Week 5, where we dive into the top Boom and Bust players for your fantasy football lineup, courtesy of the Fantasy Football Advice Network. Let’s break down who’s set to explode and who might disappoint you this week.

Boom Players

1. Justin Fields (QB, Pittsburgh Steelers) Justin Fields is poised for a breakout performance this week against a struggling Dallas Cowboys defense. Fields has been improving steadily, feeling more comfortable in the Pittsburgh offense, and this could be his week to shine. With his ability to make plays both on the ground and through the air, expect Fields to take advantage of Dallas’ vulnerability, especially against mobile quarterbacks. Look for a strong showing from him in Week 5.

2. Tucker Kraft (TE, Green Bay Packers) Tucker Kraft is emerging as the top tight end option for the Packers, taking over from Luke Musgrave. Going up against a Rams defense that has given up the 3rd most fantasy points to tight ends, Kraft is set for a productive week. If you’re in need of a tight end, Kraft should be a solid streaming option.

3. Brandon Aiyuk (WR, San Francisco 49ers) After a slow start to the season, Aiyuk is ready to bounce back. With a favorable matchup against a weak defense, he’s primed for a breakout game. Despite his holdout earlier in the season, expect Aiyuk to re-establish his connection with QB Brock Purdy and finally start delivering on his top-15 receiver potential.

4. Ramondre Stevenson (RB, New England Patriots) Facing a porous Miami defense, Stevenson is due for a bounce-back game after a couple of rough outings. Miami allowed big rushing days to backs like Tony Pollard, and Stevenson could be in line for a solid performance. If you have him on your roster, he’s a safe bet to start this week.

5. Travis Kelce (TE, Kansas City Chiefs) With Rashid Rice out due to injury, Kelce’s target share is expected to skyrocket. Though teams have started double-teaming him, the presence of rookie Xavier Worthy, with his speed to stretch the field, should keep defenses from focusing solely on Kelce. Look for him to return to elite production this week.

Bust Players

1. Pat Freiermuth (TE, Pittsburgh Steelers) Freiermuth is up against a Dallas defense that has been solid against tight ends this season. With Pittsburgh expected to focus heavily on the run game, Freiermuth may not see much action in the passing game. It’s best to temper expectations for him this week.

2. Sam Darnold (QB, Minnesota Vikings) Darnold’s been a fantasy darling so far, but this week he faces the New York Jets, who boast the toughest defense for opposing quarterbacks. The Jets haven’t allowed more than 15 fantasy points to a QB all season, making Darnold a risky start. It’s better to sit him this week, even if it stings.

3. James Conner (RB, Arizona Cardinals) San Francisco’s defense is stout against the run, and Conner’s lack of involvement in the passing game severely limits his upside. The game script is likely to force Arizona to throw the ball, further reducing Conner’s chances of success. It’s a tough week for him, and he should be avoided if possible.
